Into The World Of Cartoons

When my mother joked and said that they(my parents) had nightmares of all the cartoons my brother and I watched as kids, I did not believe her. Why would cartoons haunt you? It did not make sense then but now it most definitely does!

Welcome to the world of cartoons with your little one. My little girl needs the TV on for breakfast, lunch and dinner! Inwardly I am grateful to the 'idiot box'- as my parents called it as it gets my daughter to finish her meals. It is not good and I know it. But honestly, I grew up the same way and believe it or not, I hardly watch TV these days. Well yes, post baby there is no such thing as TV time for mom! Let alone try thinking about it!

I was a bit hesitant when the addiction to TV started, but thankfully it wasn't all shows. And I do restrict her from watching shows that do not make sense. And with todays cartoons, majority do not! I cannot imagine sitting down to have a few laughs with Tom and Jerry or Looney Tunes like in the good old days, these days they are so bright and they are most definitely not for toddlers. I was not sure of CBeebies as well, as I remembered my little nephew who was hooked onto Teletubbies and something about that show made me cringe back then too.

http://www.cbeebies.com/Australia this is the cbeebies link to the shows they broadcast in Australia, and there are a few good shows your toddler will enjoy. But mind you, the whole show isn't online, you need to subscribe to watch them fully.

There are a few shows that I do not mind my little one watching like Sarah and Duck, it is a cute show about a little girl and pet duck going around town making friends, being helpful and spending time outdoors doing all the fun things. Lah- Lah's Adventure is another, it is a little annoying for me but for my musical child, it is joy! They have two songs every show and I see my baby dancing away with it. There are a few others but I am not going to rant about them all.

Sarah and Duck

Lah Lah's Adventures

There have been times when I suddenly catch myself humming the theme music of one of the cartoons or some random random Sarah and duck song would pop into my mind. It is surprising how these shows take over the lives of your little one and yours. When I say 'take over' I do not really mean it, we do have restrictions on TV time but how much can you stop your 1.9yr old? As parents you can encourage them to play around and do some other child friendly activity, but at the end they will try to finish the day off with some TV time.

If it did not make sense when my mother said 'nightmare of cartoons' then it most definitely makes sense to me now. They haunt you through the day till you go to bed to sleep at night. Only to wake up to more "Lah- Lah's" and more "Sarah and Duck- Quack!!"
