I had heard that Anjappar was opening a branch in Sydney when I had gone home to India two years ago but had forgotten about it when I returned after ten months with a baby. While driving past Church Street in Parramatta one day I remember seeing the sign board 'Anjappar Chettinad Indian Restaurant' and getting exited.
Anjappar for me brings memories of home and spicy food. Not forgetting a restaurant in Mylapore, Chennai, with tables close to each other and people enjoying their Meals (which is a serving of rice with chicken/ mutton korma) or a plate of parotta and some meat gravy.
Coming to the Anjappar in Parramatta, it is, what I would say, traditional village and chettinad food. It is a meat lovers place and the food is spicy, definitely not a place for the faint hearted. I am going to list a few things below so you, after reading the things I am going to say, can decide if you want to go there.
And a few of my recommendations from the menu :

- Traditional chettinad food, which is very spicy. If you really can handle your spice then, yes, this is the place for you.
- I recommend you stick to the South Indian dishes, like, South Indian bread, biryani and such.
- Usually people get take aways so there is always tables available.
- The serving is quick and the food is good (if you stick to the second point I have made).
- A look at the menu.
- A baby friendly restaurant ( but do take food from home for the child)
- There is secured parking available on Valentine Avenue or you could always park at Westfield Mall.
- The restaurant is at 104, Church Street, Parramatta.
From the top left, clockwise: Chicken Kothu parotta/ Roti, Anjappar Chicken Curry, Mutton Chooka and Ceylon Parotta. |
- Nethilli Fry (fried Bait)
- Mutton Chooka
- Chicken/ Mutton/ Egg Kothu
- Ceylon Parotta or the Ceylon Egg Parotta
- Anjappar Chicken curry
